From the Bible: The Sacrifice of Abraham

Genesis 22:1-18

Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”
“Here I am,” he replied.

Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about.” ….

When they reached the place … Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he … took the knife to slay his son.  But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”
“Here I am,” he replied.

“Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”

Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.  So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.”

The angel of the LORD called to Abraham from heaven a second time and said, “I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. … and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”

  1. Thank God for the sacrifice of Abraham. It shows that God is ready to bless dedicated heart rendering follower of Jehovah. Today, those that seek God without reservation will find Him.Trust and confidence in God cannot be toomuch for mankind.

  2. Haleluia, Our God is so great,,, what a revelation. I have heard this passage preached before and it has always made a huge impact on me and this is a blessing to me, I am so filled already. The seed of Abraham (giving of Isaac and later Jesus) is still bearing fruit today. We are “SAVED” called the children of the Most High God all through something which is termed “crazy” a crazy giving. For God so Loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him may be saved. Mind Blowing

Indeed God is faithful and true,His promises are sure. Abraham also was a real Father because he could envisage promise of God to really code its meaning to performance thus our Redemption through Jesus Christ our Savior.Today we have a secured end.Bless the Name of the LORD

  4. Everything The creator God does is perfection. Every detail. It just keeps getting better and richer and more wonderful, giving us certain, sure, and absolute hope! Be ready and get your dancing shoes because we are going to be full of joy, “rejoicing”! His Name is Wonderful! Our eyes are on you LORD!
In The Jewish Messiah, the Son of God, our Lord Jesus Christ. God Has given Him the name that is above every name! And every knee will bow! And what joy will be in our hearts!

  5. God is a faithful God and a re warder of them that diligently seek Him. Abraham is a faithful friend of God who trusted God with everything he had, even his only son and this is a replica of God sending His only son Jesus Christ to leave His throne in heaven to this sinful world to lay His life for humanity in order for us to secure eternal life. Laying down one life is a very difficult thing to do with human flesh but this can only be achieved when someone is saved from sin and in real love for one another which is evident in the life of Abraham who is a friend of God.

  6. It is with Grace that I sand before my GOD my Christ Because God saw in me the Faith of Jesus to complete his works in Me. Praise be unto our LAMB the one and only true King and Savior. Now and for evermore Amen AMEN

  7. Yes a man of great faith and humility. He was called a friend of God. Praise be to God for his unspeakable gift his son Jesus. No other sacrifice could appease the heart of God. No other blood could wash my guilt away, but the blood of Christ oh spotless lamb. Praise the Lord. Amen.
